AMD has released the Catalyst 14.9 proprietary Linux graphics driver with support for the following distributions – Red Hat Enterprise Linux Suite 7.0 and 6.5, SUSE Linux Enterprise 11 SP3, OpenSUSE 13.1 and Ubuntu 12.04.4 and 14.04.

The Catalyst Proprietary Linux Graphics Driver is compatible with a whole bunch of AMD products in the Radeon, all-in-one, embedded, APU and mobility product families. For the full list of compatible AMD products, see this list.

Support for RHEL 7 and Ubuntu 14.04 distros and AMD’s Radeon R9 285 desktop product are new in this driver version.

Pre-Requisites

Before installing the Catalyst Linux Graphics Driver, users must install the following software:
* Xorg/Xserver 7.4 and above (up to 1.15)
* Linux kernel 2.6 or above (up to 3.15)
* glibc version 2.2 or 2.3
* POSIX Shared Memory (/dev/shm) support for 3D applications

For the Catalyst Linux Graphics Driver to install and work optimally, the following packages must be installed – gimp-help-en, gimp-help-common, XFree86-Mesa-libGL, libstdc++, libgcc, XFree86-libs, fontconfig, freetype, zlib and gcc.
